Design in Review: Mediterranean Summer Dinner, as featured in Luxe

I am all for traditional summer table settings, gingham and I are basically best friends. But sometimes you have to be inspired by far away places and the unexpected.   And that is exactly what happened when we collaborated with Sarah Mayerson Design and Fuller Edge Photography for our Provencale feature in Luxe by Calgary Bride’s 2014 Inspiration Issue. I will be honest this came together quick, last minute, and as I was unearthing treasures at Crate & Barrel. But for design projects like this the discovery is what brings out the best results.  There is no time to second guess, just go with your gut design instinct.  This table came together as an apologetically approachable gathering place. Inspired by the simple pleasure of breaking bread with loved ones. We contrasted high end service ware with rustic elements like the nautical textiles, a rich earthy colour palate, old world glassware, organic centerpieces, terrariums and a fresh fish (looks divine, smell is acquired). Edibles were used in place of the typical florals and the simple shapes and textures against the planks of weathered antique wood are reminiscent of a day at the beach. What really gets me excited is sourcing decor elements from wide range of suppliers Red Events Design Inc., Great Event Rentals, Crate & Barrel, And Uniquites Architectural Antiques to make a cohesive look and tone.  Creating a modern Mediterranean landscape that was authentic came down to the details, the snail shell against the striped napkin is my favourite (We decided that this last minute addition was like the earrings on the look).     Photography & Location: Fuller...
HUSTLE in support of Mealshare

HUSTLE in support of Mealshare

Did you see the fashion spectacle on Monday?  I was in New York this weekend and I could feel the energy of the Met Gala (more on this later).  The ferocious Beyonce, the always joyful Lupita, and “just out of the box” Sarah Jessica Parker, I REALLY could go on forever, but seeing this costume laden  red carpet  from the super hot to the smut (I am talking to you Ms. Upton), reminded me of an event happening this week in the city –  ISES Calgary’s HUSTLE! Hustle is where “Rock and roll meets blues. Leather meets chains.” I am always up for a themed event that is cutting edge. We are a proud member of ISES (International Special Events Society) Calgary and this Thursday, May 8th, our chapter is spooling up for HUSTLE.  This  event is a major ISESCares initiative that supports Mealshare, “ a new social enterprise that allows restaurant go-ers to engage in a “buy one, give one” philanthropic experience”   I am also thrilled that my friend Kat Mark’s will be at the event. With clients like Frank Ocean and Daphne Guinness, Kat is a fashion force that has been burning up the global fashion scene in the last couple of years. This girl makes Beyonce look tame. So it only makes sense that she will be bringing her Avant Garde leather work, debuting her Lethrbar at Hustle. (which we are really excited about)     Hustle to get your tickets here!  Be sure to wear your Rock and Roll Chic, so less 2014 Sarah Jessica Parker, and more 2013.  ...

Boom Goes The Drum featured on Martha Stewart Weddings

We are usually pretty calm at Boom, but this weekend we went a little bananas (air fist punches to be exact). This was the instigator: Emily and Brett’s Wedding featured on Martha Stewart Weddings !!! Event in Review: Ever the gracious dinner party hosts; Emily and Brett wanted their wedding day to possess all the endearing attributes of a homegrown dinner party. Set in an antique store and fashion warehouse we created a relaxed, yet elegant scene full of natural weathered textures, vibrant botanicals, and sleek modern touches. Antique European wooden table tops unadorned except for the table décor of hops, herbs, and foliage all from the couples own garden came together to create a comforting, refined experience. True to the couple’s lifestyle, this dinner party exuded the values of family, intimacy, and the elegance of simplicity. A huge thanks to Emily & Brett for having a vision and allowing us to be a part of your magical day. The benefits of collaboration just don’t quit. This wedding was also nominated at the this year’s Canadian Event Industry Star Awards for Best Wedding Creative with Designing on the Edge. Phil Crozier, you nailed it. Photo Credit: Phil...
