It happens to all of us at one point in our lives. You wake up one mid-February morning and, as you begin drinking that first cup of coffee, you find yourself staring in horror at last night’s flyer for a Valentine’s special courtesy of your local florist. Next thing you know you’re frantically searching for a restaurant with an open table and praying something other than Transformers is playing at the theatre. Don’t worry. We’ve all been there and, single or taken, we’ve taken the guesswork out of surviving (and maybe even enjoying) Valentine’s Day this year!
1.Book that Last-Minute Reservation
A great dinner is a tried and true way to celebrate the day of love; it takes out the hassle of cooking and gives you an excuse to dress up. If you’re worried about finding a reservation this late in the game, don’t be- Open Table has a comprehensive list of all Calgary restaurants that still have space! Click Here for bookings.
2. Hit the slopes!
A great date idea or a fun and unique way to meet another single, Mount Norquay is hosting a fantastic Lifts of Love event, featuring some time on the hills and an Après Ski Mixer with a DJ! Click Here for details!
3. Find Amore at the Famer’s Market
There’s nothing quite like spending a Sunday afternoon wandering the Calgary Farmer’s Market, eyeing the brightly coloured produce, inhaling the scent of fresh baked bread… There’s something inherently romantic about the whole thing. Add a dueling piano performance, a photo booth, and the chance to make a fruit-flower valentine (we don’t know, but we’re dying to find out), and we’re sold. Click Here to learn more!
4. Take in some theatre
Calgary is very lucky to have Nicholas Lloyd Webber’s adaptation of The Little Prince taking place on our local stage over the next few weeks. Based off one of the most universally cherished books of all time, this production is a must-see. If you haven’t gone yet, then Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse. Click Here for tickets.
5. Check out the Canmore Winter Carnival
Theatre, cooking classes, skating and more- Canmore’s got your covered this Valentine’s Day. Bonus? Popular Calgary singer-songwriter, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, will end your night with his signature soulful sound at Communitea. Head out to the mountains for a day that won’t disappoint.
