Congratulations! Your jewelry collection just got a whole lot more sparkly- you’re engaged! It’s time to embark on the ultimate shopping hunt for the perfect dress, but before you make an appointment (and for the love of couture, please make an appointment), here are five things your consultant will thank you for considering…
1) Choose your invite list carefully
There’s a time and a place to have everyone and their cousin gawk at you and tell you how beautiful you look; your wedding! Finding the right dress will be fun, but with too many opinions in your ear you can end up feeling overwhelmed and confused. Invite people that you want to share this experience with, and who you know will provide feedback, but who ultimately will support whatever you feel most beautiful in.
2) Keep your makeup- but keep it light
Unless you plan on going bare-faced for your nuptials, you should wear whatever make up you usually wear day-to-day to your appointment. However, try to avoid heavy or oily products, as these can transfer to the gowns when you try them on; your budget should be saved for your dress, not an extra dry-cleaning bill.
3) Wear your hair like it’s the Big Day!
You don’t need to book an appointment with your stylist, but if you think you’re going to wear your hair completely up for your wedding, then try to style it similarly for your appointment. An up-do and tumbling curls can make the same dress look dramatically different, especially around the neckline.
4) Choosing the proper undergarments
If you’re like most brides, you’re in the market for a very specific dress- a white one. Whites, creams, and ivories can cover nude quite nicely, but hot pink or yellow are likely to show through- choose your undergarments accordingly. A strapless bra is also a must, and never underestimate the value of a good piece of shape-wear.
5) Have ideas, but come with an open mind!
It’s important to walk in with at least an idea of what you want to wear, but don’t let that get in the way of trying on a stylists suggestion. There’s a reason you have a consultant- they have years of experience and training that allow them to pick up on little things you may have a hard time pinpointing (like where your natural waist sits, and the tone of your skin), but will definitely appreciate come your big day!
