Boom Does Thanksgiving: Our Favourite Recipes

Boom Does Thanksgiving: Our Favourite Recipes

It’s Thanksgiving and that means people all over Canada are trying on their #eventprof hats for a day and organizing invites, table settings, and – most importantly – menus. While we can’t pop into your living room to help you tablescape (though believe us, we’d love to) the Boom team has put together our favourite crowd-pleasing recipes to make sure your dinner is one to remember!   Derek MacDonald: Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon and Apple This creative take on Brussel sprouts will appease even the pickiest of eaters. BOOM TIP: Using an apple-wood smoked bacon will play off the Granny Smiths beautifully.   Alison Dumenko: Whiskey Glazed Carrots Easy to make, full of flavour, and they’ll provide a beautiful pop of colour for your Thanksgiving table. BOOM TIP: Make sure you let your butter brown before you add the brown sugar.   Jessica Tkachuk: Beer-Brined Roast Duck A flavour-packed alternative to turkey that tastes as good as it looks. BOOM TIP: Make sure to roast this “low and slow”. Duck is a fatty meat, and this will make sure you cook off some of that grease, without losing moisture.   Sommer Smith: Hot Spinach Dip Rich and creamy and so delicious, this is a great dip to get your Thanksgiving evening started. BOOM TIP: We recommend serving this dip with a fresh baguette. The hot cheese on a crusty bread is a perfect pair.   Jessica Broz: Apple Turnovers Who needs pie when you’ve got these delicate, flaky turnovers? BOOM TIP: Change the granulated sugar to brown sugar, and add 1 tsp of vanilla and a tbsp of...

#EventInReview: GOLF2017 for Contemporary Calgary

Contemporary Calgary is really swingin’. They have more public programming and events than ever (check out the June happenings here) and since the last time they gathered friends and family on the Elbow Springs links in 2016 they hosted #LOOK2016 and raised a record $3 Million to support the opening of Calgary’s first significant public destination for modern and contemporary art. FORE! Boom was once again pleased and proud to produce #GOLF2017 at Elbow Springs. The event took place June 6 under clear skies with over 130 golfers – all there to swing hard, shake hands, and raise some money to support Contemporary Calgary. We proud to say the event raised over $50,000 for CC. *Below Photo Credit: LeBlond Studio It’s a beautiful day at @ElbowSprings for #GOLF2017 supporting @C_Calgary! pic.twitter.com/Qe49oKLHiy — Boom Goes The Drum (@boomgoesthedrum) June 6, 2017 #Regram from @contemporarycalgary: It’s a beautiful day for #GOLF2017! #EventInReview: RVC2017’s All the Stars

Rendez-vous Canada (RVC) is Canada’s premier international tourism marketplace, which takes place in a different Canadian city each year and features a four-day series of marketplace style events, all culminating in a “host night” finale event. This year, Calgary was awarded the opportunity to play host city and welcome over 1,700 international tourism buyers to the great white north, and Boom was given the opportunity by Travel Alberta and Tourism Calgary to produce the host night event. Calgary features five star dining, hundreds of musical and cultural stars, and an unparalleled view of the northern hemisphere’s pristine starry skies. With this in mind, our team worked with Daughter (another Calgary star) to come up with the event identity “All the Stars”. Over the next few months, this identity was slowly brought to life as we envisioned the experience guests would have as they travelled through The National Music Centre, exploring seven floors, each themed and decorated by One West to mimic Alberta’s varying scenery. 86 separate contractors, vendors, suppliers, entertainers, and event partners came together to show the world the best of Calgary, and the result was a delight to witness. Gorgeous lighting highlighted the stunning architecture of the building; Albertan-inspired cocktails and canapés captivated; incredible local talent entertained on every floor, and ambient video of our province’s natural offerings met guests at every turn. Take a look at the photos below for a glimpse into the evening! *All photos by Leblond Studio   Boom was honoured to have worked with such an incredible team on this event, and is very proud to have had the opportunity to show off...
#BoomGoesOut: The Dream Factory

#BoomGoesOut: The Dream Factory

What happens when you mix a lively performance group with one of Calgary’s most unique and well-loved arts buildings, and add a healthy dose of creative imagining? Theatre Junction GRAND‘s Dream Factory event- a fundraiser for their company and venue and fast-becoming of one Calgary’s most looked-forward to events of the year. The second annual event took place this past Saturday at the Grand, and saw hundreds of well-costumed Calgarian’s in various states of dream-like attire make their way through its bricked halls.     The evening began with a VIP reception which soon transformed into a guest-led exploration of the building. A “Queen of Hearts” entertained with her croquet playing companion before inviting guests to choose between two doors. One led to a large, dark room, with five beds in the centre, lit from above with spotlights; the other to a small room with four chairs and little else. In the room with the beds, guests were invited to lie down and put on a pair of headphones, where each was treated to a different auditory experience. In the room with the chairs, it was a visual one, where guests wore a virtual reality headset and toured a mystical fantasy world. In the main theatre, a “massage bed” of pulsing, neon lights continually scrolled, mesmerizing watchers, while a nearby platform displayed a book opening and closing, seemingly of its own accord.     Throughout the evening performance artists roamed the building, performing arial acrobatics and impressive gymnastics, enticing party-goers onto the dance floor. As the night drew to a close, guests enjoyed their last few nibbles and cocktails...
