Where go the giant tin fish, robotic dragonflies, and buildings made of mushrooms, so go we! As self-professed fans of artistic ingenuity, BOOM has been following the incredible growth of Beakerhead from its conception, and is proud to provide production support for this amazing experience this fall.
A year of innovation and creativity cumulate every year in the Beakerhead extravaganza of art, culture, science and technology that stuns and inspires Calgarians (and BOOM) without fail. “…More than a schedule of mesmerizing events; it’s a time and place where engineers show their creative sides, and artists get technical, where science hits the street, and everyone gets ingenious”. Sounds like our kind of party.
But with dozens of events going on across the city, and only so many hours in a day, how do you choose which explosion of innovation to go see? Luckily for you, BOOM has done all the leg work.
Beakerhead 101: Where to go…
For a date night!
Acclaimed chefs, a world-changing art installation, tap dancing, and more await guests of this VIP experience, hosted by the historic Barron Building. Prepare to have all senses delighted throughout this engaging date night!
With your kids!
The Sandbox of Human Ingenuity (a gigantic, come-one-come-all sandbox,) and The Claw (think arcade) await the young and the young at heart at Fort Calgary. Beakerstreet will also be open for business for those who want to take a piece of Beakerhead home with them!
To learn something new!
Dave Kelly will be chatting with five inventors, designers, and innovators, all bent on solving some of the world’s biggest challenges, while still conquering the marketplace. Hear their journeys and learn about their products while enjoying a gourmet, locally-sourced bagged lunch, courtesy of Nicole Gourmet!
To try something new!
Grasshopper beer meets… Real grasshoppers? Calgary’s local watering hole, The Palomino, plays host to this science cafe as Aspire Food Group‘s Nathan Allan encourages us to re-think what’s on our plate (and maybe try some cricket-flour chicken wings, courtesy of Next Millennium Farms?).
Local architects have constructed a multi-story, pop-up structure, made of mushrooms! Open to guests all Beaker-week, come learn about and enjoy this truly interactive public art installation.
