#BoomGoesOut: Calgary Stampede reveals new Big Four Roadhouse

Last night, Calgary Stampede welcomed over 1,000 people to the new and improved Big Four Roadhouse, recently updated to provide Calgary producers with a new option for live performances. It now features 60,000 sq. ft., a permanent stage, built-in bars, capacity for up to 4,000 people and a state of the art in-house sound and lighting system. As producers, and fans of live music, we were thrilled to get in there and scope out the place.   So, @mikesbloggity needed to take the photo, as I am incapable of taking selfies. #TB4Roadhouse #eventprofs #venueexploration A post shared by Jessica Broz (@missjbroz) on Oct 5, 2017 at 9:16pm PDT First impressions: very good. The team at Calgary Stampede lit up the building like never before, and a stellar crew of professionals welcomed guests on the red carpet. We were warmly greeted by friendly faces and the smell of mesquite bbq as we walked the carpet. We proceeded into the (giant!) room to find food stations and bars, before eventually enjoying a concert on the big stage. Congratulations to Stampede on the new space! What a way to show it off… Thanks for inviting us to take part! The Big Four Roadhouse aims to increase the number of performers that come to Calgary on their tours by adding a fresh space for Calgary’s growing music scene. The space features 60,000 sq. ft., a permanent stage, built-in bars, capacity for up to 4,000 people and a state of the art in-house sound and lighting system. #TB4Roadhouse A post shared by Calgary Stampede (@calgarystampede) on Oct 5, 2017 at 8:12pm PDT Thank you...
Event in Review: Converge 2017 for ILEA

Event in Review: Converge 2017 for ILEA

It’s a tall order to organize an event for event producers in support of event producers. When you are your target audience, how can you possibly accomplish everything you’d like to achieve? The answer: bring together generous and talented partners who believe in the cause and value experience as we much as you do. We were honoured to host CONVERGE 2017 for the Search Foundation in our home, The Foundry, last night, during ILEA LIVE 2017. Hundreds of industry heavyweights and local influencers gathered together to connect and catch up. From the innovative lighting (hello exterior wash and infinity dance floor!) by Orange Frog Productions to the dramatic nitro dessert station by Great Events Catering, guests were treated to sweet surprises around every turn, starting in our neighbour’s space Uniquities, moving through The Foundry, and concluding outside on the pop-up patio. We have lots of people thank: Orange Frog Productions (lighting), FMAV (AV), Great Events Catering (food), BassBus (music & entertainment), OneWest (furniture), Designing on the Edge (florals and ceiling decor), Givergy (silent auction), SOS Charging Solutions (charge stations), Picture This Digital (photo booth), and Eventful Planning (drink sponsor). *Thank to our friends at FMAV for the photos, and to all of the guests who shared their experience on social media! Check out #Converge2017 for more great shots.   We love this shot that our member & friendor, @viewitdoit captured at #ilealive! We can’t wait to hear all about it at next week’s meeting! #Repost @viewitdoit ・・・ Our Vanessa is attending @ilealiveconference in Calgary Canada and spent the evening at @searchfound #Converge2017! #BoomGoesOut: Contemporary Calgary Patio Party 2017

An invite to a patio party? You know what that means… Summer is officially here! This June, we attended Contemporary Calgary‘s Patio Party. CC’s loading dock was transformed into an urban lounge, with disco balls and video projections.  The evening kicked off with a talk on social spaces and urbanism by FRANK Architecture & Interiors, whose projects include some of Calgary’s chicest new bars and restaurants. Afterwards, the patio was open and drinks, music, and food completed the celebratory evening. Despite an Environment Canada thunderstorm warning, the art and party enthusiasts could not be deterred – the beat went on indoors with DJ Sonidef and beer provided by Last Best Brewing & Distilling. Always a joy to hang out with our pals at Contemporary Calgary. Happy Summer everyone!    Not Over You by @mark.clintberg. I 🖤 Canadian contemporary art. Our patio party will be moving indoors tonight and will feature a talk from @_frankarchitecture, @djsonidef will be spinning some beats, and we’ll be pouring @lastbestbrew! #yycnow #yycevents #yycpatio #yycarts A post shared by Contemporary Calgary (@contemporarycalgary) on Jun 8, 2017 at 3:15pm...

#BoomGoesOut: Make Fashion 2017

The sixth annual Make Fashion show took place at Telus Spark, debuting the work of some of Canada’s premier minds in wearable tech. An apt venue for a runway show dedicated to exploring the ways clothing can interact with modern technology, hundreds of Calgarian’s filled the building, all clamouring to see the future of fashionable technology.     Boom enjoyed a VIP tour of the venue, sneaking behind the proverbial curtain (by invitation, of course) to watch the swath of designers, make up artists and hair stylists buzz around models, carefully adjusting glowing skirts and visual-projection hats. Afterwards, there were drinks and a few bites until we were called to our seats by the sudden radiating glow of the runway, signalling the show’s imminent beginning.       Skirts that glowed like compasses, indicating true north, hats that projected flowery images onto the wearers chest, and head pieces that pulsed with the model’s heartbeat were all evident at this year’s show. Truly delightful, ever surprising, and always entertaining, Make Fashion can tip their LED-filled hats to another successful event. For more information on Make Fashion, click...
Live Boom Reactions: Academy Awards Red Carpet 2017

Live Boom Reactions: Academy Awards Red Carpet 2017

4:33 pm MT The carpet is down, showtime is nearly here, and the boom team is nestled together with an unhealthy supply of popcorn and twizzlers for the Academy Awards. If you know our President, Derek Macdonald, you know that today is his Christmas. We’ll keep you posted on the success of his predictions – but we can tell you right now he’s like rainman of Oscar season.  So gather your fellow movie buffs and red carpet watchers and join us! 5:00 pm MT A few things we’re noticing on the red carpet: ACLU ribbons: Many of the stars are wearing blue ribbons in support of the American Civil Liberties Union’s “Stand With ACLU” initiative. Bedazzling is dead: Could it be the La La Land influence? Bobs: No need to cut your hair – a nip and a tuck and you can rock a fake bob. 5:40 pm MT All agreed: Janelle Monae has been our favourite voice on the red carpet tonight. These ladies have made early statements… 5:54 pm MT If you’ll allow us to geek out on production for a moment… ABC’s screen is appropriately showing film posters behind the stars they’re interviewing, but the images are pixelated behind them. Missed opportunity! These are problems you can solve before the show goes on – the editors playing fast and loose with calling shots and sad Ryan Seacrest… you deal with live. 6:57 pm MT Our Trump mention drinking game is already getting us in trouble. Nice to start the show with some energy – thank you JT. Production note: that white lav mic on Jimmy Kimmel. So...
Boom Goes Out: Diner en Blanc 2016

Boom Goes Out: Diner en Blanc 2016

It’s a rare treat when, as event producers, we get to attend an event and just… attend. The Boom team looks forward to Diner en Blanc every year for just this opportunity. This headline stealing event is an annual, multi-continent spanning pique-nique en plein air. All over the world, guests are invited to attend this pop-up dinner under the guidelines of a strict dress code which mandates party-goers come attired purely in white, with white tables, linens, chairs, and any other accroutements they might wish to bring also devoid of colour. The result is a jaw-droppingly beautiful spectacle, as hundreds of people gather for an old fashioned pic-nic, with a modern, elegant twist. At this year’s Diner en Blanc, the Boom team, in conjunction with Rocket House, were pleased to host a few of good friends at our table. And while we may have had good intentions to simply relax as guests at this event, our inner over-achievers couldn’t be stopped… The Boom table, all 18 feet of it, was covered by a custom-made draped top (courtesy of Designing on the Edge), which not only looked beautiful, but provided shelter for our guests through a short drizzle part-way through the evening. Delicate, ivory flowers bloomed from the corners of the table, breaking up the severity that can occur in a monochromatic scheme. In addition to style the table, Boom’s very own Italian, Lori D’Agostino, and Colleen Smith of Theatre Calgary provided the nibbles, in the form of a multi-course, Mediterranean inspired meal.           What can we say? Nobody knows how to enjoy a party quite like event producers. As...
