Event in Review: Converge 2017 for ILEA

It’s a tall order to organize an event for event producers in support of event producers. When you are your target audience, how can you possibly accomplish everything you’d like to achieve? The answer: bring together generous and talented partners who believe in the cause and value experience as we much as you do. We were honoured to host CONVERGE 2017 for the Search Foundation in our home, The Foundry, last night, during ILEA LIVE 2017. Hundreds of industry heavyweights and local influencers gathered together to connect and catch up. From the innovative lighting (hello exterior wash and infinity dance floor!) by Orange Frog Productions to the dramatic nitro dessert station by Great Events Catering, guests were treated to sweet surprises around every turn, starting in our neighbour’s space Uniquities, moving through The Foundry, and concluding outside on the pop-up patio. We have lots of people thank: Orange Frog Productions (lighting), FMAV (AV), Great Events Catering (food), BassBus (music & entertainment), OneWest (furniture), Designing on the Edge (florals and ceiling decor), Givergy (silent auction), SOS Charging Solutions (charge stations), Picture This Digital (photo booth), and Eventful Planning (drink sponsor). *Thank to our friends at FMAV for the photos, and to all of the guests who shared their experience on social media! Check out #Converge2017 for more great shots.   We love this shot that our member & friendor, @viewitdoit captured at #ilealive! We can’t wait to hear all about it at next week’s meeting! #Repost @viewitdoit ・・・ Our Vanessa is attending @ilealiveconference in Calgary Canada and spent the evening at @searchfound #Converge2017! #BoomGoesOut: Make Fashion 2017

The sixth annual Make Fashion show took place at Telus Spark, debuting the work of some of Canada’s premier minds in wearable tech. An apt venue for a runway show dedicated to exploring the ways clothing can interact with modern technology, hundreds of Calgarian’s filled the building, all clamouring to see the future of fashionable technology.     Boom enjoyed a VIP tour of the venue, sneaking behind the proverbial curtain (by invitation, of course) to watch the swath of designers, make up artists and hair stylists buzz around models, carefully adjusting glowing skirts and visual-projection hats. Afterwards, there were drinks and a few bites until we were called to our seats by the sudden radiating glow of the runway, signalling the show’s imminent beginning.       Skirts that glowed like compasses, indicating true north, hats that projected flowery images onto the wearers chest, and head pieces that pulsed with the model’s heartbeat were all evident at this year’s show. Truly delightful, ever surprising, and always entertaining, Make Fashion can tip their LED-filled hats to another successful event. For more information on Make Fashion, click...

#EventInReview: Beakerhead and Trico Present “The World of Social Entrepreneurship”

The crisp fall air mixed with the smell of smoke fills your nose as you walk past two 10 foot metal lilies, fire spewing from their steely petals. Passing the Blazing Lilies, you make your way along a field of softly glowing white balloons, dancing and pulsing in synchronization while hundreds of people crowd around, pointing, smiling, lifting little ones over shoulders for a better view. You come to a large crowd and survey the diverse group; laughing grandparents with bulky cameras around their necks; glow-painted teenagers huddled in small, chattering groups; tiny children excitedly clutching family members hands, craning their necks to see past the throng. You wonder what could have brought such a range of Calgarian’s out on a warm, September Saturday, when suddenly an eight foot tall robot lunges onto the stage. The crowd stares up exepctantly as lights wash over their faces. The robot turns to face the group, lifts his arms, and “WOOSH”, the crowd gasps with collective delight as they’re blasted with cool mist rushing out of the robot’s mechanical arms. The rest of the evening is a rush of fire, smoke, mechanical wonder, and engineering dreams. As you begin making your way home a few hours later, ears and eyes still filled with the visual smorgasbord you just witnessed, you wonder what on earth immersive, futuristic world you just left. This world, dear explorer, is Beakerhead.       The fourth annual Beakerhead took over Calgary this past September, with works of science, art, and engineering exploding all over the city via public pop ups and specialty events. The Boom team was thrilled to once...

Event in Review: SocialWest

Project Brief: Assist social star Mike Morrison to present the largest social media and digital marketing conference on the prairies over three days in a legendary Calgary cinema. SocialWest, a new conference from Mike Morrison, welcomed over 400 professionals into The Globe Theatre last week to talk social media, communications, and digital marketing. More than that, it achieved something special: it made ‘The Conference’ cool again. When one thinks of ‘traditional’ social media masters and digital masterminds, one conjures images of geeky, anti-social computer nerds. In fact, the ecosystem of social media marketing is made up of enthusiastic, engaging, and energizing individuals eager to connect, learn, and expand their networks. Can you imagine a better environment and atmosphere for growth? Take it from us, it was a fabulous way to learn and meet new people. *Photo Credit: Neil Zeller Photography Boom Goes the Drum was able to collaborate with Mike from the conference’s conception, and were able to project manage the multiple layers of production: Registration Staffing Venue Management Production Budgeting Project Management It was a joy to see the project come to life – and sell out weeks in advance – and experience the event with the incredible calibre of professionals it attracted.   The result: A sold out conference that attracted 400 attendees from as far as the NWT and major brands like Facebook, Twitter, and Airbnb. Attendees also got to hear from homegrown social star Kelly Oxford (who stuck around to sign copies of her NYT best-selling book). Social impressions for the event were in the tens of millions – trending nationally within hours of opening. There was also...
