Beakerhead is annual event in Calgary celebrating a smash-up of art, science, engineering and culture. On the surface, Beakerhead looks like a week of spectacular fun every September. But it’s more than a schedule of mesmerizing events: it’s a time and place where engineers show their creative sides, and artists get technical, where science hits the street, and everyone gets ingenious.
BOOM was challenged to create an event that blended all Beakerhead elements in a ‘date night’ experience – a singular stand out, must-do, activity during the week. The idea for a multi-day, mid-air, culinary experience was a collaborating between BOOM and Beakerhead’s bombastic creative team.
As part of their week-long experience of innovation and creativity, Beakerhead presented The Periodic Table. This food-focused event hosted a pop-up restaurant on a Ferris wheel in a field overlooking downtown Calgary. A classic ferris wheel was erected in an unlikely location to expose a skyline view never before seen. The ferris wheel was fueled by cooking oil. A Top Chef contestant served up the ‘elements’ in a molecularly gastronomic feast.
Boom Goes The Drum production included:
- Conceptional Collaboration
- Event Logistics
- Structural & Culinary Permits & Production
- Staff & Guest Registration & Scheduling
*BONUS* The event was blessed with an appearance from #SNOWPOCALYPSE.
The Periodic Table welcomed 280 guests per day, for three consecutive days. The event was a sold-out success and exposed guests to a meal and view never-before-seen and never to be duplicated – a true reflection of the Beakerhead philosophy.
